he mission of the Garland Water Utilities Laboratory (GWUL) is complete dedication to the production of high quality data at minimal cost, and to providing a convenient service for the City of Garland and all internal departments.
For 35 years, the GWUL has conducted analytical services for both wastewater treatment plants and various internal departments including Health and Electric.
Our staff (consisting of chemists and biologists) is fully conversant with prescribed regulatory agency procedures as set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Analytical capabilities Include:
Organic analyses for Pesticides, PCB’s, Volatiles and Semivolatiles by Gas Chromatography (GC) and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS)
Automated wet chemistry for Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, and Phosphorus
Metals analyses by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS)
Classical wet chemistry - BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, VSS, and E. Coli
GWUL is accredited under the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) by the TCEQ for drinking water and wastewater. NELAP accreditation assures:
Environmental data used to protect public health and the environment are generated by laboratories with demonstrated competence
The lab has been evaluated and has met acceptable standards as established by the industry
